What this test measures

Almost everyone with coeliac disease carries one of two tissue types, HLA-DQ2 or DQ8, but so do a third of the general population. A negative result therefore makes coeliac disease very unlikely, while a positive on its own means little.

Why doctors request it

Used when someone has already cut out gluten before testing, or when antibody results are unclear.
