What this test measures
The DPYD test looks for inherited variants in the enzyme that breaks down some chemotherapy medicines (fluoropyrimidines). It is required in the UK before those medicines are given.
Why doctors request it
Tested once before chemotherapy with capecitabine or 5-fluorouracil.
What commonly pushes it up
- Carrying one or two reduced-function variants, which about one person in twenty does
