What this test measures

IgE is the antibody involved in allergic reactions. Total IgE measures all of it, whatever it is directed against, so it is a general marker of an allergic tendency rather than of any one allergy.

Requested in asthma, eczema, hay fever and suspected allergy, and needed before some asthma injections.
