ELF score (liver fibrosis)
What this test measures
The Enhanced Liver Fibrosis score combines three blood proteins involved in scarring into one number that estimates how much scar tissue is in the liver.
Why doctors request it
UK guidance uses it in fatty liver disease to decide who needs specialist referral; hepatology clinics use it to follow scarring over time.
What commonly pushes it up
- Increasing liver scarring
- Increasing age
- Heavy alcohol
- Inflammation anywhere in the body, slightly
What commonly pushes it down
- Treatment of the underlying liver condition
- Weight loss in fatty liver
Everyday reasons for a value outside the range
- It is a calculated score with no unit
- Age raises it a little in the general population

Read my report freeThis is an educational summary of results you uploaded. It is not medical advice, a diagnosis or a treatment plan, and it does not replace the doctor who requested the test. If you are worried, or a result is marked outside range, discuss it with your doctor. Written and reviewed by a UK consultant physician. Reference ranges vary between laboratories.
